WWE SmackDown results, grades: The Usos ambush Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn

The Usos sent a message to Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn on WWE SmackDown with just a week to go until WrestleMania 39.

In Hollywood next weekend, Jimmy and Jey Uso will put their Unified Tag Team Titles on the line against the newly reformed duo, and they laid out their challengers in a rapid ambush on Friday night.

It was a busy night for The Bloodline, kicking off with the first match as Cody Rhodes beat Ludwig Kaiser in a strong, competitive clash between two opponents who worked well together, while Paul Heyman and Solo Sikoa were there to keep an eye on Roman Reigns’ challenger for WrestleMania.

After the bell, Heyman got the mic and taunted the American Nightmare while revealing he has to face Solo on Raw just six days away from his Undisputed WWE Universal Title match, but Cody insisted he wasn’t going to be fazed.

He pointed out he beat Seth Freakin’ Rollins with ‘half his body hanging off’, so he’s up to battling The Bloodline’s enforcer, even if he is undefeated.

Later in the night, Sami Zayn joined Kevin Owens for a special edition of the KO Show which saw the latter suggested things weren’t too rosy between them, only to unveil a fantastic joint KO-Mania and WrestleZaynia t-shirt.

The two lifelong friends shared another warm hug, but that left them open to a surprise attack from The Usos, laying out Sami with the 1-D.

With one Raw and SmackDown to go until ‘Mania, there is plenty of time to make this rivalry even more personal as the huge match approaches.

Rey Mysterio finally hits Dominik, GUNTHER battles Butch and more

Charlotte Flair came out to hype up her own legacy and her upcoming SmackDown Women’s Title defence against Royal Rumble winner Rhea Ripley.

She voiced her respect for legends like Nikki and Brie Bella (now known by the Garcia name since leaving WWE), and addressed her insecurities and reputation for nepotism, before teasing: ‘Diamonds are forever, and so is Charlotte Flair!’

Rey Mysterio lost in a great match against LA Knight, with both men getting in plenty of offence before his son Dominik came down to cause the distraction, costing his dad the match.

After the bell, he shoved Rey, again trying to call him out, and when that didn’t work he refocused his attention on his own mother Angie and sister Aalyah at ringside.

His dad hit breaking point as Rey turned and marched his way back towards his son, laying him out with a huge punch to a massive cheer as he insisted he didn’t want to hit his boy, but he’d been pushed too far – and the WrestleMania match is on.

In a decent but unremarkable qualifier for the women’s WrestleMania Showcase match, Shotzi and Natalya defeated Lacey Evans and Xia Li.

After the bell, Shayna Baszler and Ronda Rousey came out to taunt the winners – plus Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez, who had already booked their ticket to Hollywood – and revealed they will be part of the match, despite the Baddest Woman On The Planet dealing with some injuries.

Some strong words were exchanged by Sheamus and Drew McIntyre before they put pen to paper for their Intercontinental Title match at WrestleMania, and after ranting about the bout being unjustified, champion GUNTHER also signed on the dotted line.

He vowed to do anything do get the win, including beating up the Celtic Warriors’ allies in the Brawling Brutes, which Butch took exception to, leaping over the table on the attack as the Ring General demanded the match to be made there and then.

The two European stars are no strangers to each other and they delivered a cracking match, which broke down into a melee involving Sheamus, Drew and Ridge Holland at ringside, while GUNTHER beat Butch by pinfall.

Afterwards, Drew went to hit Sheamus with a Claymore, but it was dodged and he took out the IC Champ instead as the Triple Threat heats up.

WWE SmackDown airs Friday nights at 1am on BT Sport.
