We tried TikTok’s viral snowglobe cocktail trend and it’s so magical

As Christmas approaches, everything starts to look a little more magical  — including the food and drink we consume.

And there’s one tipple in particular that’s taken TikTok by storm this December and it’s been dubbed ‘the coolest drink ever’.

A new trend on social media sees people making snowglobe cocktails for their holiday parties, with a mini snowman and a Christmas tree inside the drink.

A tutorial for it was shared by Eve Miles, the founder of Sipped Ltd, a drinksware company. More than 99,000 people viewed her video, and as one of the thousands who watched with rapt attention, I couldn’t resist giving it a go.

To make the drink, Eve uses gin and tonic, a few different sized marshmallows, icing pens, some cocktail sticks, and a sprig of rosemary.

However, as I was short on gin, I substituted it for another clear alcoholic beverage, the peach and rosemary Grey Goose Essences. You could also use vodka and soda, or lemonade depending on your preference.

After collecting all the ingredients, I started making my little marshmallow snowman. You pop a large marshmallow on a cocktail stick first and top it with three mini ones. Then you get creative with icing pens adding a face and buttons.

My husband and I both had a go at this part, making a snowman each, and we were surprised that it’s harder than it looks in Eve’s video, but if you’ve got friends coming over, this would definitely make for a fun little seasonal activity before you enjoy the drinks.

You can also get creative and give the snowman other winter accessories. I couldn’t help myself, so I added a carrot nose, a hat and scarf to mine.

And it doesn’t even matter if you overshoot with the icing and mess it up, as you can always just eat the marshmallows and start over. Yum!

After a couple attempts at making a snowman, I trimmed a rosemary sprig and carefully stuck it upside down into the marshmallow base the snowman sits on, so it looked like a Christmas tree was behind him.

I was feeling pretty proud of my creation, but couldn’t get too cocky as this was where things got rather tricky.

You need to carefully place the whole thing inside a clear glass of your choice, and then add a little water in the bottom of the cup. But be very careful, as too much water will cause your marshmallow to become soggy and fall over, ruining all your hard work.

Once you manage to get the water level just right, you just pop the whole thing in the freezer until frozen. Patience here is key, as the ice is what will keep your snowman in place.

When it’s set, top with your booze and mixer and that’s job done. You’ve got yourself a fun and festive drink that looks like it took hours to create, but doesn’t take long at all.

And if you want to make the drink feel even more special, you could always add a little edible glitter spray for a touch of sparkle.

While some TikTok trends just aren’t worth the time and hassle, I can confirm this one is definitely worth a go and the cocktail looks just as magical as it did on the screen.

However, a word of warning: Don’t add the gin and tonic to the glass until you’re completely ready to serve and drink it.

The ice melts pretty quickly once out of the freezer and you don’t have long until your snowman ends up bobbing about in your drink, looking a little sad and melty.
