A veterinarian who stabbed his ex-girlfriend in a ‘brutal’ attack when she ended the relationship faces a life sentence after being convicted of murder.

Alberto Fioletti, 31, knifed mum-of-two Stephanie Hodgkinson, 34, eight times at her apartment on May 12.

He then stabbed himself before ringing for an ambulance, telling the operator: ‘I killed my girlfriend […] she didn’t want to be with me anymore.’

Fioletti, of Fordingbridge, Hampshire, will be sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on January 15.

The pair had made plans to meet and discuss their relationship, which Hodgkinson had decided to end.

Paramedics rushed to the flat after receiving Fioletti’s call but Ms Hodgkinson could not be saved.

Fioletti was treated by paramedics, arrested and taken to hospital for treatment to stomach wounds.

He remained under close guard while receiving medical treatment over the course of several days.

When Fioletti was assessed as able to be discharged from hospital, he was taken into custody and interviewed by detectives.

He admitted that he was responsible for his former partner’s death, saying he had become angry after she had ended their seven-month relationship.

Speaking after Fioletti’s conviction today, Detective Inspector Mark Jenkins said: ‘This was an incredibly sad incident where Stephanie, a young mother-of-two, lost her life during a brutal and violent attack by a man she had only known for a short time, but that she trusted.

‘I can only imagine the devastation his actions have caused to Stephanie’s young children, her parents, family and friends who have suffered immeasurable loss.’

He added: ‘My thoughts and those of the whole investigation team remain with them at this extremely difficult time.

‘My hope is that the outcome today brings some small comfort that justice has been served.’
