Stars of much-loved 00s TV series reunite 23 years after BBC show began

It’s been over 20 years since Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps hit screens, following five young pals and their romances, friendships, and all the ups and downs life brings.

The show garnered a huge audience on BBC, with Will Mellor, Ralf Little, Sheridan Smith, Kathryn Drysdale, Natalie Casey, and Beverley Callard making up the stellar cast.

And now, in news that will bring copious amounts of joy to fans, two of the stars are reuniting for a new series.

Will, 48, and Ralf, 44, have teamed up for Will And Ralf Should Know Better, a factual entertainment show which airs later this year.

Bringing their renowned chemistry to U and U&Dave, Will and Ralf are set to pull back the curtain on a bickering bromance that stretches over two decades.

And as two middle-aged men in their forties, the beloved actors will find out how they can do life better.

Each themed episode will see the pair embark on a series of encounters and challenges that will test their attitudes on everything from embracing their ‘spiritual’ side, facing their fear of ageing, and discovering the perils of living off-grid with no toilet paper.

Viewers will be privy to all the action alongside the fly-on-the-wall intimate conversations that only two best mates could have.

Whether they’re being open-hearted and honest, ridiculously competitive, or just winding each other up, Will and Ralf Should Know Better will undoubtedly let the nation bear witness to two friends getting life right but, more often, getting it oh so very wrong.

‌Speaking ahead of the series launch, Strictly Come Dancing star Will said he’s ‘wanted to do a series like this for years’.

‘Going on a journey with Ralf to open our minds and push our limits… what could possibly go wrong!?’, he joked.

‘We’re both in our forties now and probably a bit set in our ways, so now is the perfect time to see how we could be doing life better.

‘Hopefully, we’ll come out of it better equipped for the modern world and, ideally, still in one piece.’

‌Death in Paradise star Ralf echoed that he is ‘thrilled to be working with Will again’ as they always have ‘so much fun’ together.

‘We’ve just finished our podcast tour and I thought I might get a bit of a break from him! This time we get to explore how we should be living in the modern world while educating ourselves and having a laugh at the same time.’

‘I can’t wait to get going,’ he teased.

The duo’s project has been commissioned for UKTV by Jason Dawson, who said they are ‘hugely excited to be working with Will Mellor, Ralf Little, and Afro-Mic to bring this to screens later this year.’

Emma-Rosa Dias of Afro-Mic Productions also hailed the duo as ‘two of Britain’s best-loved and funniest friends’ set to entertain the masses ‘as they challenge themselves and each other on a journey around the UK to get to grips with the modern world.’

Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps ran from February 2001 to May 2011.

Viewers were gutted when it was confirmed by the BBC that the series would not return. It came as the channel wanted to make room for new comedies and felt the series had come to a natural end after the departures of most of the main cast members.

Will, who played Gaz Wilkinson, has spoken before about wanting to bring back the hit show, specifically when BBC Three relaunched in 2022.

He told MailOnline in December last year: ‘I said I would do another one, just to say thank you to the people who supported it because it ran for ten years.

‘Everyone still talks to me every day in the street about it. Every day, someone will mention it. Their favourite show, growing up and, you know, had a cult following, and it’d be nice to do another series just to see where they are now.’

Will and Ralf Should Know Better will air on U&Dave and stream on U later this year.
