Sir Rod Stewart pays touching tribute to brother Bob on day of funeral
Sir Rod Stewart has said goodbye to his brother, Bob, who died in November at the age of 88.
The end of 2022 was a heartbreaking year for the singer, with the death of Bob coming just weeks after his older brother Don died, aged 94.
Paying tribute to his sibling after his funeral, Sir Rod, 77, posted a photo of the order of service, which featured a smiley snap of Bob in his younger days.
‘In loving memory of Robert Stewart,’ the order of service read, stating that his funeral was held at Islington Burial Chapel on Friday, January 6 after his death on November 29.
Sir Rod captioned his post: ‘I said Farewell to my Brother Bob today, with his coffin draped in a Rangers flag (life long Glasgow Rangers fan).
‘We loved our game days up in Scotland together 💙💚’
Remembering his two siblings, he concluded: ‘Now he joins Brother Don, rest in peace boys.
‘Two of my best mates gone within just a few months.’
The star was met with an outpouring of love from fans and friends, who sent condolences and prayers to the Stewart family.
‘May your wonderful memories bring you peace and comfort in this difficult time 🙏🏻’, one fan commented.
‘How very sad to have lost your 2 brothers in such a short time. But they were and undoubtedly beyond proud of you, for your achievements and successes but most of all for who you are as a person and a younger brother,’ another wrote.
Sir Rod’s daughter Ruby, 35, also commented a dove emoji.
The Maggie May hitmaker announced the devastating news of Bob’s death the day after it happened last year, writing a heartfelt Instagram post.
‘It’s with great sadness that I announce the loss of my brother Bob last night, who joins my brother Don on the great football pitch in the sky,’ Sir Rod wrote.
‘I’ve lost two of my best mates in the space of two months. RIP Don and Bob ‘irreplaceable buddies’ Sir Rod Stewart.’
Don died in September, just two days before Queen Elizabeth II died at the age of 96.
In an Instagram post at the time, the singer told his followers it had been a ‘devastating’ time.
‘We lost my brother Don on Tuesday at 94 and today we have all lost Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at 96,’ he penned.
Paying tribute to the late monarch, the songwriter added: ‘The Queen has been an unwavering presence throughout my life and a great unifier. A shining star that will never fade in our hearts and souls.’
He hailed it a ‘privilege’ to have performed for the Queen at her platinum jubilee concert in June.
‘What a privilege it was to perform for her. My deepest sympathies to the Royal Family. God save the King.’
As for the death of his older brothers, Sir Rod has not revealed their causes.
