Royal Family LIVE: Prince William and Kate face big decision as George hits big milestone | Royal | News

The Prince and Princess of Wales face a big decision over the future schooling of their son and whether Prince George will follow in his father’s footsteps by attending Eton College. Royal historian Richard Kay has said when Prince William started at the elite private school at the age of 13, he was in a “fragile place”. George’s grandfather, King Charles, and great-grandfather, Prince Philip, both attended Gordonstoun in Scotland with William breaking that tradition with his schooling at Eton.

Prince George currently attends Lambrook School along with his siblings, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five.

Mr Kay, quoted by the Hindustan Times, said of Prince William: “The 13-year-old was in a fragile place – alone and just starting boarding at the elite Eton College across the river from Windsor.

“Concerned for her grandson’s emotional state, the Queen invited William up to join her when Eton boys went home for the weekend.”

He added that William’s arrival at Eton also represented a rare moment of unity between his parents, Charles, the then Prince of Wales, Diana, Princess of Wales.

Mr Kay said: “At the time, Charles and Diana were in the middle of a separation that had grown increasingly ugly and bitter, with each taking pot-shots at the other. But when it came to their sons’ schooling, they managed to find common ground.”
