Olly Murs broke down in tears on The Voice UK as he connected with a contestant after losing friend Caroline Flack to suicide.

The X Factor alum, 39, turned his chair for Sheridan Coldstream, 59, a vocal and confidence coach who volunteered on a suicide helpline, after he sang a beautiful Billie Eilish cover.

Billie’s song, Before I Go, centres around suicide, which Olly did not realise until he pressed his button to welcome Sheridan onto his team.

So, when the auditionee explained his reason for choosing that song – which Billie herself actually duetted with him on TikTok – Olly was overwhelmed with emotion.

The Heart Skips A Beat hitmaker struggled to keep it together, not mentioning Flack – who died in 2020 and would’ve turned 44 this week – by name, but everyone in the audience knew who he was referring to.

‘I didn’t know that song was about suicide,’ he said.

‘Obviously, I lost a friend…’

Olly was unable to finish his sentence, with fellow coach Anne-Marie rushing over to be by his side and support him.

The singer went on to say he felt the stars had aligned with him meeting Sheridan.

He also said the moment made him think he ‘could’ve done more’ for his late pal Flack, with whom he used to host The Xtra Factor.

‘Although I’m supposed to be coaching you, I think you’ll be coaching me,’ he said tearfully.

Olly then left his chair to give Sheridan a big hug.

Reacting to the precious interaction, The Voice viewers said it was a ‘touching moment’.

‘This was quite emotional 😔. What a beautiful voice. He was meant to be there for Olly’, one person wrote.

‘Absorbable my eyes out at this. If ever someone needed to be in someone’s life…..@ollymurs you beautiful soul, I love how you wear your heart on your sleeve. Never change xx’, another penned.

One viewer praised: ‘Well done Sheridan and @ollymurs for speaking about suicide on a prime time show ❤️👏 Caroline would be so proud of you, Olly! xx’

Love Island presenter Flack took her own life in February 2020 amid a media storm as she awaited a court appearance on charges of assaulting Lewis Burton, her boyfriend at the time.

Following her tragic death, a ‘Be kind’ campaign was launched in aid of mental health awareness.

Pop star Olly – who will not appear on The Voice UK next series in what he said wasn’t an ‘amicable’ decision – has since spoken openly about struggling with Flack’s death.

Dedicating a cover of Sweet Caroline to her on tour previously, Olly said he wished he had ‘been there’ for her.

‘That whole process for me was so difficult, and I had never been through anything like that before,’ he said of his grief.

The Essex star continued to the arena: ‘I just want to say, for anyone in the room that is struggling right now or anyone you know is struggling then please give them a call because I really wish that I had been there for Caz.

‘I wish that she had called me. I didn’t know how bad it was and if you know someone, please give them a call.’

The Voice continues Saturday on ITV1 and ITVX.
