Marseille have reportedly approached Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah just a day after agreeing terms on a deal to sign Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood.

Nketiah featured regularly over the last season, making 37 appearances in all competitions and scoring six goals, but mostly as a substitute.

The 25-year-old did enjoy a run in the Gunners starting XI early in the season, earning his first England cap as a result, but the last of his 10 Premier League starts this campaign came in December.

Arsenal are keen to bring in a new midfielder and striker this summer, with Nketiah one of players who could be sold to raise funds.

And according to French outlet Foot Mercato, Marseille are one of the sides interested in the Englishman and have already approached him about a potential move.

Nketiah is said to be interested in the possible move, with a number of Premier League clubs also likely to be interested in signing the striker.

Now managed by former Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi, Marseille are keen to bring in several new faces after a disappointing league campaign which saw them miss out on European football.

Alongside Nketiah, a deal for Greenwood is said to be progressing, with the club agreeing a fee of €31.6million (£26.7m) with the Red Devils.

Greenwood is yet to agree personal terms with Marseille, though, and the Ligue 1 outfit will now look to finalise a deal with the United academy product and his entourage.

De Zerbi hailed the 22-year-old as a ‘world-class player’ when asked about Greenwood, but the move has not pleased everyone, with local mayor Benoit Payan imploring club chief executive Pablo Longoria, to rethink the deal.

‘Greenwood’s behaviour is unspeakable, unacceptable. Hitting his wife… I saw images that deeply shocked me. Abusing his wife in this way is unbecoming of a man and he cannot have his place on this team.

‘The values of OM and Marseille are anything but that in fact. It’s a shame. I will ask Pablo Longoria not to recruit Greenwood. I don’t want my club to be covered with the shame of someone who hits his wife.

‘Olympique de Marseille is more than a club. It is a spirit, and there is no place for those who behave in this way, for those who commit this kind of crime and offence.

‘It is unbearable. I cannot imagine for a second that Pablo Longoria would make this major mistake.’

The England international, who spent last season on loan at Spanish side Getafe, hasn’t played for his United since January 2022 when he was arrested for attempted rape, controlling behaviour and assault – charges that were subsequently dropped.
