Lizzo has reportedly been hit with a new lawsuit as a former employee alleges she was physically and verbally abused while working for her.
The Truth Hurts singer is accused of facilitating a toxic work environment by former employer Asha Daniels, who reportedly worked in the star’s wardrobe department on her 2023 tour.
Lizzo herself is not accused of being physically or verbally abusive, rather it is another employee, who allegedly openly called Black women ‘dumb,’ ‘useless’ and ‘fat,’ and told staff she would ‘kill’ and ‘stab a b****’ if she could not find her medication.
In new documents seen by Page Six, Daniels claims Lizzo and staffers at her Big Grrrl Big Touring Inc company were aware of the staff member’s alleged behaviour, and one staffer advised Daniels to record the employee to catch the behaviour, which Daniels declined to do.
In the suit, Daniels alleges the employee injured her by rolling a clothing rack over her foot, and then shoved her into the rack and told her not to make excuses after Daniels said she was in pain. She says she injured her ankle after being pushed.
Former employee Daniels, who worked as a designer, alleges other details from her time on the tour, including a backstage manager allegedly sending a photograph of ‘male genitalia’ in a group chat, and management discussing ‘hiring sex workers… attending sex shows and buying hard drugs’ at a show stop in Amsterdam.
She says she felt ‘pressured to join such activities’ but was able to secure ‘one of her few days off’ to avoid this.
Daniels goes on to allege that she was fired ‘without notice or reason’ before her contract expired, and that she suffered an allergic reaction on the day she was fired but was denied medical care.
Her attorneys reportedly claims Daniels ‘suffered constant anxiety and panic attacks during the tour from the racist and sexualised environments’ and now has ‘PTSD’.
‘She suffers from migraines and migraine-induced eye twitch and ocular distortions, brain fog and fatigue,’ the documents, seen by the outlet, allege.
Daniels is reportedly seeking damages from the pop star for sexual and racial harassment, failure to prevent a hostile work environment, disability discrimination and more.
The latest suit was filed on September 20, just months after Lizzo – real name Melissa Jefferson – was sued by three of her former dancers.
She was accused of discrimination and creating a ‘hostile work environment’ by three former dancers, as well as sexual harassment for allegedly forcing them to touch nude performers at a strip club in Europe.
In August it was reported that the Truth Hurts star was planning a countersuit against the trio accusing her of harassment.
Crystal Williams, Noelle Rodriguez, and Arianna Davis claimed they were subject to sexual, religious and racial harassment, disability discrimination, assault and false imprisonment, among other allegations.
Lizzo has vehemently denied the allegations, branding them ‘outrageous’ and ‘sensationalised’.
