Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe) was rendered speechless when she arrived at a church to seek guidance on her current predicament, only to be faced with a face from her past in the form of Jacqui (Claire Cooper).
The former Dog landlady was absolutely stunned to realise that sister Jacqui was actually a nun and, as questions were asked by both, it wasn’t long before a good old-fashion McQueen fight broke out.
A slanging match ensued with insults aplenty, followed by a monumental slap, before the warring sisters finally decided to put past mistakes to bed in a bid to hear one another out.
Mercedes opened up about her situation with Felix Westwood (Richard Blackwood) and Warren Fox (Jamie Lomas), not to mention the pregnancy, with Jacqui struggling to offer any sort of advice outside of the obvious, which is for her to take time and think about what, or who, she wants.
Jacqui, meanwhile, was quizzed on her reasons for becoming a nun, with the much-loved character simply stating that she was in need of a change and thus opted for a ‘simpler life’.
Mercedes was doubtful, but Jacqui refused to divulge any further information about her decision, deflecting to Mercedes’ issues instead.
The episode in question was everything and more, with the long-awaited reunion between the sister duo absolutely worth the decade-long wait, feeling very much like the Hollyoaks of old, with a dash of its modern self in there too.
A winning formula if you ask us!
Mercedes and Jacqui concluded their family reunion with a hug, as the former left the church with a lot to think about.
Jacqui, meanwhile, is harbouring a secret, which was confirmed in subsequent screens as she retrieved a newspaper from her bag which featured a front-page story discussing a murder in Alicante, where Jacqui had been living previously.
The question is: just what has she got herself into?
And is the real reason for her becoming a nun due to the fact that she’s lying low and keeping out of sight due to what happened in Alicante?
We might never find out the answers to such questions, with actress Claire Cooper having stated that this return was all about Jacqui ‘dancing’ with Mercedes ‘one last time’.
We can dream though, can’t we? It’s been an absolute delight to have Claire back as Jacqui and, despite everything, we hope to see her return again one day as she’s up there with soap’s finest.
