Emma McVey has revealed she feared she’d never wake up from her heart operation.

The mum-of-two, 30, who is married to former Geordie Shore star Gary Beadle, 34, underwent major surgery in January.

Before going under for her procedure at Leeds General, Emma worried that she might not ever see her husband or their children, Chester, five, and Primrose, three, again.

Casting her mind back to the moment she parted ways from her loved ones, Emma recalled: ‘They came to the hospital to drop me off and Gary had to drive away with the kids crying their eyes out after we said goodbye.

‘That was the hardest bit. I had to mentally prepare myself that it could be my last goodbye.’

While Emma knew she’d be connected to a heart machine throughout her operation, she admitted to The Sun that she ‘kept thinking, “They’re not going to be able to start my heart again”.

She added to the publication: ‘I thought, “I’m going to get put to sleep and I’m not coming back out”.’

Emma has been in and out of hospital for several years now since doctors informed her that she has three holes in her heart.

She previously informed fans a couple of years ago that she also had damaged tissue which was causing her blood to pass through in the wrong direction.

‘The right side of my heart is now enlarged and weak, along with high blood pressure in my lungs,’ she said.

‘This has all got a lot worse as they should of been closed when I was a child, unfortunately no one checked my heart even when I had seizures and diagnosed with epilepsy or fainted like it was a hobby.’

Although Emma has since recovered from her surgery, her husband Gaz revealed shortly after that one of her lungs collapsed following the operation.

Updating his fans on Instagram at the end of January, he wrote: ‘Kids have been so brave but also cried and been emotional wrecks at bed times and mornings and just missing mummy like crazy…

‘Emma even with today the news 1 of her lungs has collapsed and is now on oxygen to help bring it back over the weekend hasn’t stopped her 1 bit today when i went in for the hour we get as it clashes with school pick up she was up and walking to the toilet her self 😱😍 which is just amazing [sic]’.
