Bus on school run crashes and overturns leaving several children in hospital with injuries | UK | News


A bus with dozens of schoolchildren on board has overturned, seeing two air ambulances rush to the scene.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident on the B3090 Oldford Hill near Frome, Somerset, shortly after 3.30pm on Monday.

Some children were taken to hospital, but there were no life-threatening injuries reported.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance and Somerset Air Ambulance attended the scene, along with police and rescue crews.

The bus was carrying both staff members and pupils from Frome College.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said: “Emergency services have been called to an incident involving a bus near Frome this afternoon.

“Police received a call from a member of the public at approximately 3.35pm, that a bus had overturned on the B3090 Oldford Hill.

“A number of passengers, including schoolchildren, received minor injuries and were checked over by paramedics at the scene.

“A small number are being taken to hospital by land ambulance for further treatment or assessment.

“Their injuries are not considered to be life-threatening or life-changing.

“Officers are liaising with the school, as well as the parents of children involved in this incident.

“Enquiries will continue at the scene to establish the cause of the collision.

“The road is likely to remain closed for some time, so we’d ask motorists to avoid the area if possible.”

In its own statement, Frome College requested that the public did not speculate on the course of the coach overturning, adding they would provide an update in due course.

The school said: “This afternoon a coach carrying our students and staff was involved in a road traffic accident outside Oldford.

“The emergency services remain on the scene, along with our principal and vice principal.

“We have been informed that there are no life-threatening injuries.

“We will issue a further statement once all the details are established and ask that you do not speculate or post details of the accident on social media.”
