Britain’s Got Talent winner Viggo Venn insists it ‘wasn’t his fault he won’

Britain’s Got Talent winner Viggo Venn seemingly addressed some of the backlash to his recent victory.
At Sunday’s final, Viggo was supposedly booed by some of the studio audience after being announced as the winner on Sunday, while some viewers expressed their shock at him taking first place.
Now, he has addressed the negative response while chatting to Lorraine Kelly on her show.
‘It’s not my fault that I won, it’s the British public,’ he explained to the host unprompted.
After Lorraine, 63, congratulated him on the win he responded: ‘I was hoping I didn’t win because it would be so embarrassing.’
During his final performance, the comedian had the judges in fits of laughter when he forced Simon Cowell to wear a matching hi-vis jacket as rose petals were thrown over the pair.
And because two jackets weren’t enough, it was then revealed that the entire audience was wearing a hi-vis vest! There was also swearing, popping balloons, and confetti in the chaotic performance.
Viggo brought some of that chaotic energy to the ITV studio. He ran into the studio, where every member of staff and Lorraine was wearing a high-vis. She declared his jog into the interview chair ‘the best entrance ever’ on the show.
In another unusual moment, Viggo declared that he was hungry mid-interview and walked across to a fruit bowl, and tried to bite into a fake apple.
This was the second attempt for Lorraine and Viggo to sit down together. He was due to appear on the show yesterday but pulled out last minute.
Lorraine explained to viewers why he was absent: ‘Viggo was supposed to be joining me in the studio this morning but unfortunately, he’s not feeling too chipper but hopefully, we’ll see him later on.’
She added that Viggo needed a ‘wee rest.’
Lorraine seemed thoroughly entertained, but after hosts Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly announced Viggo as the winner, some viewers took to social media to share their thoughts and note the ‘booing’.
One person wrote: ‘You just hit rock bottom #BGT2023 an act with no talent wins a talent show. Gutted for the acts that have trained for years to be beaten by a guy in a hi viz!!!’
‘Did you hear them boos on @BGT? Quite right too, ridiculous. So much more talent in that final tonight. #BGT2023 should not have made the live shows. Poor winner,’ added another.
A third person raged: ‘Cancel/axe the show forever; the boos in the crowd say it all – the WORST winner ever in the show’s history!!!!! How did this sideshow win????? He literally has no talent whatsoever!!!’
Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV.
