Mercato Metropolitano’s Weekend Of Food, Workshops And More

London packs a punch when it comes to street food hubs, and Mercato Metropolitano more than holds its own in the ring. Whether you’re after one evening of tongue-tingling meals and rounds of drinks or a handful of sustainably sourced ingredients to take home, the south London market has been your port of call for over six years now.

This month at Mercato Metropolitano, however, something that hasn’t been around for the last two years is making a roaring comeback. WE Sustain: A Regenerative Weekend is taking over the market once again on October 21-23, with the returning campaign exploring how we can work to improve the world’s food systems.

Throughout the weekend, topics will be delved into via a series of workshops, cookery classes, community lunches, seminars and panel discussions with experts in the industry. And, of course, while you learn about topics such as food as a human right or food as a community builder, you can sample some of the unique flavours on offer at Mercato Metropolitano – think arancini and cannoli from Little Sicily; tongue-tingling aubergine fatteh from Mouna’s Syrian Kitchen; or a generous helping of traditional Himalayan dumplings from Bijay and Kamala.

The broad range of activities for all ages aims to shine a light on the positive changes that are happening in the food industry, and ultimately hones in on how we can all – be it individuals, businesses, and communities – make changes and regenerate to deliver food for all. Other topics on discussion include food waste, farming, and good food as a catalyst for change.

After success in 2019 delving into topics such as “Designing Cities For The Future”, “A Woman’s Vision Of The City”, and “The City We Want To Live In”; the event is destined to be a hit with its food focused regenerative weekend. Head down to WE Sustain where the informative talks and workshops are just as inviting as the dishes on offer.

Find Mercato Metropolitano at 42 Newington Causeway, SE1 6DR (nearest station is Elephant and Castle). WE Sustain runs events from October 21-23 at 11am – 8pm, and is free to enter.
