Kew Gardens To Hugely Expand £1 Ticket Concession Scheme
London’s botanical beacon that is Kew Gardens is easily one of the most essential visits in the whole city; changing with the seasons and boasting some of the most stunning wildlife sites (smelliest plant, anyone?) out there.
It does come at a cost, though, a fact that Kew Gardens themselves have recognised, offering up tickets for just £1 for anybody who claims Universal and Pension credit across the UK. This scheme has been running since January 2022, and is now expanding even further.
Asylum seekers will now able to buy tickets in the £1 concession scheme, and will simply need to bring their application registration card to view the gardens.
It comes after Kew Gardens sold their 100,000th ticket under the scheme, and has decided to make it even more accessible as a result of its success. It will also mean that those eligible for the concession can now bring up to four guest with them… each for a rate of £1 each.
Don’t forget that any admission ticket for Kew Gardens extends to all parts of the grounds, including the limited-time activities and exhibition. Right now, you’ll be able to go and view the ‘Horrible Science’ trail, but across the year you’ll also be able to head in for events such as the Christmas lights and the beautiful Orchid Festival.
Speaking on the news, Sandra Botterell, Director of Marketing and Commercial Enterprise at RBG Kew, said: “I’m delighted that so many people have made use of this £1 concession so far. It’s been heartening to hear so much glowing feedback from people who have been able to access and enjoy the Gardens, benefiting from the positive impact being surrounded by nature can have on our wellbeing.
“It’s also been fantastic to see lots of our peer organisations adopting similar schemes to make their incredible spaces more accessible.”
